Pluto has entered Aquarius for the next 20 years, and as if on cue, its ingress heralded a major windstorm here in the Pacific Northwest, which created a massive power outage. So now I sit in a darkened room, writing on my battery-powered laptop in the dark, wondering just what the winds of change will bring us over the coming decades.
I’d be lying if I said I was filled with excitement. Instead, I’m feeling the effects of Aquarius’ traditional ruler, Saturn, as he jabs at my ribs and invokes a bit of fear. What is going on with the world right now? And as an astrologer, shouldn’t I be able to get beyond these fears and work with the energy of change? The answer is yes, but the energy feels a bit like sitting through a windstorm. You try to get prepared by charging up your batteries and stockpiling some non-perishable food items. But once it hits, it’s time just to hunker down. But it’s more than that, it’s also about attitude. Instead of giving in to fear and uncertainty, it’s a good time to embrace love, hope, optimism, and personal responsibility.
Pluto is the planet of the underworld. It tears things down to build them back up again. It is a planet of power, control, obsession, and ultimately, transformation, as the things that Pluto touches will never be quite the same again. It’s like that Harry Styles song, “You know it’s not the same, as it was, as it was…” And that is what we’re in the middle of. In Aquarius, Pluto is transforming our social structures, utopian ideals, groups, and communities. It’s no longer about the big power structures of institutions, corporations and big government ruling over the masses and telling us what to do. It’s about your social contracts with your friends, neighbors, and communities and what you want to build for a better future. Oh, and it’s the planet of electricity, the internet, and social networking. So, look for changes in the way we use energy, the communities we create online, and how we build our networks.
Pluto in Aquarius is about the power of the collective. The power to create groups of like-minded individuals that have an unexpectedly powerful transformative process on society. So, pay attention to where you spend your resources of time, money, and energy. Are you using them to support the things that align with your greater values? Or are you supporting old, outdated structures that could care less about the societal norms and practices that you believe in? Reality is created by your thoughts, actions, and perceptions. So, use the power of this transformative energy to really get into your foundations around the community and build a support network that works for you.
Pluto’s big move into Aquarius is just the beginning of some major changes in the astrological weather coming up over the next year. Neptune will move into Aries in May, sparking changes around our dreams, creations, and illusions. Saturn then follows into Aries in June, marking a more sober look at our personal ambitions and responsibilities. Uranus then moves into Gemini in July, bringing unexpected breakthroughs and changes to our thinking, mass communication, and media. So buckle up, everybody, we should be in for a wild ride. And remember to choose love over hate, joy over rage, and courage over fear.
