A look at the Cosmic Weather for August 1 – August 15
A brilliant Leo New Moon highlights the first two weeks of August, and calls us to set intentions to be more authentically ourselves.
We come into August with the moon strong in it’s home sign of Cancer, while Mercury sits in rulership in Virgo. With the Moon sextiling Mercury you may find yourself examining your feelings, and wanting to speak up about them. But be careful that you don’t overthink them or get too critical with yourself about how you feel.
August 2, 2024
On August 2nd, Venus in Leo will square Uranus in Taurus, creating a bit of tension and perhaps some unexpected developments around your relationships. Perhaps you’ve been feeling a bit tied down and want to break free of old patterns and bonds that have been holding you back. But take care, that you don’t ruin a good thing with a sudden burst of anger.
Leo New Moon
Early in the morning of August 4th, PDT, the Moon in Leo will line up with the Sun, creating a New Moon. This is a time to plant some seeds and intentions around creativity, self-expression, and joy. So how do you want to create more joy in your life? And what do you want to say? These are things to consider with the New Moon. This Moon/Sun conjunction will also be coming out of a supportive sextile from Mars in Gemini, giving an active voice to your intentions, it will also be working towards a supporting sextile from Jupiter in Gemini, which asks you to think big and expand your authority.
Later that evening, Venus will leave passionate and loving Leo for the more asture sign of Virgo. This isn’t a comfortable placement for Venus, which just wants to love and be loved. With Venus in Virgo, the universe is asking us to take a step back and analyze the way our relationships are going. And Virgo can be super critical and a bit picky, so you may find yourself putting the brakes on your love life while you evaluate what is working and what’s not.
Mercury Goes Retrograde
Also on August 4th, Mercury Retrograde officially goes retrograde.
Now, Mercury Retrograde gets a bad wrap for all the varied communication snafus it causes, which is fair. It can cause mental lapses, and electronic glitches that can be inconvenient at best, and disastrous at worst. Mercury will spend the majority of August going back over the ground that we covered in mid to late July. It may be a bit of déjà vu but remember the big re’s when it comes to retrogrades. It’s a good time to reevaluate, reexamine, rethink, and rework projects that maybe could use a re-vamp. This can bring you some new insights on how to make them stronger. But hold off on moving full steam ahead with your new revelations until after mercury has cleared both the retrograde period and its shadow which won’t happen until September 12th.
Road Trip
In better news, the Sun will sextile Jupiter in Gemini on Wednesday, August 7th. This may be a lucky day, where good fortune shines down on you. So, get out of town and go on a day trip if you can, somewhere where you can soak up the sun and recharge your batteries.
A Little Tricky
Thursday, August 15th Mars will conjunct Jupiter in Gemini. This could go a couple of ways. Since Jupiter/Mars will line up and fuse their energy in the chatty sign of Gemini, you could find yourself thinking, talking and wanting to act impulsively in a big way. With Mars being the planet of aggression and war, and Jupiter the planet of expansion, you could find yourself “on the warpath” so to speak, by looking to pick a verbal fight. But remember, this too shall pass, so no matter how hard the urge to go forward with biting words, keep it cool and think it through.
