Gratitude: it’s what’s for dinner

A Phoenix rising.

“If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.” -Oprah Winfrey I’ve been accused of being a bit of a negative nelly. It’s ok. I fully understand it. With Virgo rising, I have a bad habit of being extremely critical. I have a natural ability to look at a problem, analyze it, pick it apart, find the flaws and then work on rebuilding it better than it was before. It also means, that I strive for perfection. This combination is great for …

Sun in Cancer

Nurturing and the zodiac sign of Cancer

Well, in true Gemini fashion, June flew right by, and now we are into July. And now that we are firmly into Cancer season, the theme for the month is nurturance. How do you nurture yourself? What makes you feel secure? And what does that mean anyway?  Nurturing is the act of caring for someone or something to help it grow and flourish. And it’s the ultimate in Cancer energy. It’s about feeding the body and the soul and providing for security needs. It can be about protecting, cooking, the home, traditions and history. It can also be about self-care …

Multitasking and Gemini Season

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work in hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus. – Alexander Graham Bell Gemini season has come to an end, and now we are in the early days of Cancer season. But before we dive into the emotional depths, I thought we would wrap up the month with a little Gemini energy. So, I looked for a quote on multitasking only to find that they were not so inspirational. In fact, they were just the opposite. All the quotes I saw said that you should concentrate on one thing …

A splay of tarot cards, showing the Emperor on top.

The Emperor

The Emperor sits on a hard stone throne adorned with Ram’s heads, the symbol of the Zodiac sign of Aries. He is clad in a cloak of red, the color of Mars, and on his legs, we see a peak of the metal armor he wears as protection. He is the defender of the castle. On his head, he wears a crown of gold speckled with clear and ruby colored jewels, showing that he has won his triumphs. In one hand he holds a staff in the shape of an ankh, the Egyptian symbol of life. In the other, he …

Christa driving a car.

Jupiter in Gemini and learning to drive

Today as I was heading out to run some errands, I stopped at a four way stop to take a left. To my right, a student driver tentatively crossed the street. This meant once I made the turn that they were directly ahead of me, and I winced in anticipation. It was going to be a bumpy ride.  Sure enough, the next mile was filled with staying back an extra 50 feet and travelling a good 10 miles under the speed limit as I watched the student driver navigate their way down a hill. There were moments of odd accelerations. …

Juneuary

Happy Juneuary!!!

“Many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows not that it brings abundance to drive away the hunger.” – Saint Basil Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t always rain in Seattle. It’s a myth. We get plenty of nice days when the weather is perfect, the mountain is out, and everyone is singing in a harmoniously good mood. But, and this is a big but, summer doesn’t always come on time. This is especially true in June. It’s led Seattleites to coin the term, “Juneuary,” which refers to the first part of the summer when the …

A path under climbing roses.

Sometimes you got to lose to win

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big hockey fan. A big hockey fan. And seeing that it’s May, it’s time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And I’m all in. My team is the Vancouver Canucks. Now I’m not Canadian but growing up in Pacific NW, the Canucks were the closest thing we had to a team, so Vancouver was the team we cheered for. This year, the Canucks were in the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Hopes were high as they had one of the best records in the NHL during the regular season. But …

The Fool Tarot Card

In the beginning was “The Fool”

At the beginning of every hero’s journey, there goes a fool. A soul that embarks into the great unknown with only a small backpack of supplies to sustain them. They look upwards, towards the light, not paying attention to where they are going. At this point it doesn’t really matter, they just need to go. The momentum forward has propelled them to the top of a cliff and a small dog nips at their heel, as if to tell them to stop. But it is of no use. The fool is on their way and there’s no looking back now. …
